Japanese films released in Brazil / November & December 1961

20 August 1961 - Not only Sao Paulo watched Japanese movies. Toho Filmes present the 1st Great Japanese Cinema Festival in Rio de Janeiro with screening at Art-Palacio in Copacabana, Tijuca and Petrópolis-RJ.
20 August 1961 - At Cine Rex, in Rio de Janeiro, Toyoso Yamamoto & Junichiro Yamashita in 'Para nós não há sol'. 

15 October 1961 - Very seldom a Japanese movie would be shown outside its 'ghetto'... Heinosuke Gosho's 'O corvo amarelo' (Kiiroi Karasu) was one of the exceptions shown at Cine Coral, on Rua 7 de Abril...
22nd October 1961 - Child-actor Koji Shitara keeps pulling the crowds into Cine Coral to watch 'Corvo amarelo' (Kiiroi Karasu)...
22nd October 1961 - Another Japanese film is released in the 'regular' cinemas opposed to the so-called 'ghetto-movie-houses' (Cines Joia, Niteroi, Tokyo). 'Lirio do lôdo' (Bokuto Kitan) is praised by OESP's columnist.
29 October 1961 - At the same week Alfred Hitchcocks's 'Psycho' and John Wayne's 'Tha Alamo' premiered in Sao Paulo, OESP's columnist hailed eagerly 3 new Japanese releases.
Cine Apolo, opened on 7 February 1961, on Rua Conselheiro Nébias, 211, showed a Shochiku Film Festival in October 1961 - with 7 different flicks: Heinosuke Gosho's 'Sonho disperso'; Keisuke Kinoshita's 'A parede invisível' and 'Nas asas da fantasia'; Hideo Ohba's 'Poesia do meu primeiro amor' and 'Orvalho na flor' plus Tatsuo Sakai's 'Acorrentados pelo amor'.
29 October 1961 - this week's new releases: Mitsuo Yagui's 'Além das ondas' (Ano Nami no Hatemade), Yasuahi Sasaki's 'Espada indomável' (Tsukikaga Ittoryo) and Sadao Sushihara's 'O adorável lar de Sazaesan' (Sazae San no Dassen Okusama).

5 November 1961 - At Cine Apolo, a gala-night pays homage to actor Teiji Takahashi (高橋 貞二)
who appeared in more than 20 films from 1950 to 1959. Takahashi was born in Tokyo, on 20 October 1926, and joined the Shochiku studio in 1945. He became one of the company's top young male stars, alongside Keiji Sada and Koji Tsuruta. He was 33 years old when he died in a traffic accident on 3 November 1959
5 November 1961 - TV & Teatro Record present Eri Chiemi, the most popular Japanese singer nowadays... 

12 November 1961 - At Cine Niteroi: 'A vida entre chamas' (Waga Shoga Wa Hinogotoko); at Cine Joia: 'Amor, casamento e...' (Shin onna daigaku).
12 November 1961 - 5th week drawing crowds to Cine Coral 'Corvo Amarelo' (Kiiroi Karasu) proves to be a winner.

26 November 1961 - At Cine Joia, 'Destino de gueixa'; at Cine Jussara 'Volupia perigosa'.

6 December 1961 - Japanese films were treated at the same level as American movies by daily 'O Estado de S.Paulo'. On this particular week, 3 new Japanese releases at Cine Niteroi, Cine Nippon and Cine Bandeirantes in the 'regular' circuit.

31st December 1961- Last day of 1961 brought 4 more Japanese productions to be shown in Sao Paulo:  'O segredo da bailarina' (Onna Mai), 'O castelo de Osaka' (Osaka-jo Monogatari), 'Chuji, o justiceiro' (Kunisada Chuji) and 'Os valentes da neve' (Daigaku no Sanzokutachi).
