6 February 1955 - Italian bombshell Silvana Pampanini is 'A Presidenta' (La Presidentessa)... some 55 years before Dilma Rousseff was elected the first Brazilian female President in 2010. Disaffected rightwing commentators would argue that the word 'presidenta' does not exist in the Portuguese language just to spite those who addressed Ms Rousseff as 'Presidenta'. As you may as well see, Ms Pampanini was 'Presidenta' in 1955; at Cine Broadway and Cine Alhambra Cuban bombshell Maria Antonieta Pons dances to 'Conga selvagem'.

3rd July 1955 – It is remarkable that in 1955, São Paulo had a lot less movie theatres than 5 years later, let’s say 1960. One then realizes that in 5 years the number of cinemas more than doubled up. Unless the newspaper ‘Estado de S.P.’ didn’t print all the news that fit. Most of the films were from the USA with a few exceptions like ‘Mulher de verdade’ a Brazilian comedy with Inezita BarrosoColé, Rachel Martins & Caco Velho; Italy’s ‘Persiane chiuse’ (Janelas fechadas) with Eleonora Rossi Drago & Massimo Girotti; Spain's 1952's 'La estrella de Sierra Morena' (A estrela da Serra Morena) with Lola Flores; at Cine Paratodos & Cine Alhambra (both demolished within 2 or 3 years) 1952's Mexican musical comedy 'Musica, mujeres y amor' (Musica a bordo) with actor-singer Ramon Armengod & Miroslava (read her sad story above).
